February’s Extremes

We’ve had some wonderful ski days this month, from one extreme to the other. Alta’s alpine environment has seen temperatures near 50 degrees this month with beautiful sunny days fit for mountain picnics. We would have a stretch of warm weather for several days and then a storm would roll in and freshen things up. Last weekend the weather changed and brought in another storm with a foot of new snow on Saturday and great powder skiing.  As the week got underway on Monday, the next storm system came in.  Every day since we’ve seen 24 hour accumulations of 8-14 inches. The temperatures have dropped significantly since the weekend and the snow is very light.

From what the National Weather Service is telling us, it looks like we could be getting some snow over the next seven days.  Meanwhile, the base at Alta is 134 inches and we could see another 10 inches in the next 24 hours.

Around Alta Lodge, it feels like we’re “snowed in” with all the accumulations of snow around the Lodge.  The crew is busy staying on top of the shoveling. Most guests are tired when they come in but happy and look forward to the next day.

We have nearly two more months of skiing.  Wonder what March and April have in store for us?
