Happy New Year from Alta Lodge! As we bid adieu to 2019 and carve out the next chapter in our little history book, we look forward to not only a new year, but also a new decade.
The 2019-2020 season brings the celebration of 80 years of Alta Lodge operating as Alta’s original ski lodge, and 60 years being owned by the Levitt family. It was a decade ago that we lost the Levitt family’s original proprietor, Bill Levitt. However, Bill’s commitment to the Lodge and our community was strong, and his legacy is alive and well. We continue to be inspired by his vision and are forever grateful to his leadership and contributions.
While Alta has seen some big changes in the last ten years (chief among them the addition of the new high-speed Supreme lift), much has remained the same. This past decade was book-ended with monumental snowfall totals: The 2010 – 2011 season saw a grand total of 723.5”, and last season totaled 626”. Both years were well above the annual average of 550”. We are so grateful to be ringing in this New Year with even more of Mother Nature’s greatest confetti – fresh Alta snowflakes. With our January storms bringing in an impressive 153” and pushing our season-total to nearly 350”, we are on track for another phenomenal season.
As we look ahead at what the next ten years will bring, our hope, as always, is for more of what we love most. More snow days, more smiles from returning guests and staff, more family traditions continued, more Hot Toddy’s, more breathtaking Alta sunsets, more country-club days, more time spent connecting with friends old and new in the Lodge.
If you are starting off 2020 looking to feel inspired in the mountains, the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon is a great place to do so. Vacations at Alta Lodge are comfortable, relaxing, and care-free. With a hot breakfast and four-course dinner included in our nightly room rates, courtesy shuttle rides between Alta and Snowbird, a small general store with souvenirs and oft-forgotten items for sale, we have everything you need right here. Whether you are an avid skier, or still spending your day on the bunny slope, skiing is a sure way to clear your mind and relax your spirit. With the stunning backdrop of Utah’s Wasatch Mountains to top it off, how can you resist?
Celebrate with us in the coming decade. If adventure, travel, relaxation, more family time (or more solitude), and treating yourself to more days on the slopes are among your goals for the 2020’s, then take advantage of all that Alta has to offer and plan an Alta Lodge getaway. As we embark on the next ten years, we are committed to upholding the guest experience we have always prided ourselves on – providing a comfortable lodging vacation with personal guest service and incredible food.
In the words of Bill Levitt, cheers to plenty of “peace and powder skiing” in the coming decade.
