What does it take to get to 121 inches? Almost 12 feet of snow since January 1! Starting January 20 through the 24, Alta received 69 inches–yes, that’s in five days. It’s been a fun month at Alta for powder lovers. Day after day of great skiing with a few sunny days in between. The word gets out and the reservation staff juggle calls from people across the country who are ready to hop on a plane and get in on the fun. The highway crew and avalanche control teams have worked extra long hours in keeping Highway 210 open and safe. On Monday the road was closed when control work brought down six avalanches across the road. The road opened briefly from 1-3 pm for downhill traffic. Things were back to normal this morning with the road opening at 8:30 am.
It’s hard to believe but the sun shows signs of reappearing this weekend…we’ll look for you on the slopes!
