2 Weeks More of Skiing at Alta

It's the last day of March with 7" inches of powder to start the day with.  The base depth is 132" now and it looks like we will be getting more snow over the weekend and next week. With all the snow, it's hard to fathom the ski season ends on April 16th!

Free Demo Day is April 8 at Alta. Skiers will have an opportunity to try dozens of next years' skis from ski reps at no cost.  If you are considering getting some new skis, this is a great opportunity to try an assortment of skis from different manufacturers.  The event will be located at the base of Collins lift and starts first thing in the morning.  Sign up with a credit card as a deposit and you're ready to go.

With a sunny day or two in the next week, we plan to do mountain picnics for Alta Lodge guests. We put this event on in a "secret" ski-to  location. It's a fun event for our staff and guests alike.

Spring season is upon us with unpredictable weather and spectacular skiing. Take advantage of the great coverage we have on the mountain and come have some fun with us during Alta in April!

Now's the Time to Ski Alta

New skiers to Alta typically start out with a trail map and look for corresponding signs for runs on the mountain. That's a simple way to figure things out and get oriented to the mountain.  The majority of runs for beginners and intermediates are in the Albion Basin which is where most of the trail grooming occurs.

For expert skiers, the options are many, especially for those who like to ski off-trail.  The High Traverse (High-T) which is accessed from the top of Collins, takes skiers across the west facing slopes and steeper chutes.  The eight steepest chutes at Alta are accessed by traversing and or hiking to off trail runs.

Of course there are more subdued approaches to the ski day like swinging by Alta Java or Baldy Brews for a latte, lunch at Alta Lodge with a beer or a glass of wine, après ski at the Sitzmark Club or an in room massage.

Weather permitting, during spring at Alta Lodge, we head out on the deck for afternoon tea time and host a few mountain picnics and après ski receptions.

Everyone has their own idea of a perfect ski day, just make sure that one of yours is at Alta.

Signs of Spring and 13" Fresh Snow

Good weather and stable conditions opened the Baldy Chutes last week and there was a steady stream of skiers making the hike to the top of Baldy. The opening of East Devil's Castle attracted quite a few skiers as well.  When the sun comes out and the air temperature is on the cooler side, it seems as if everywhere gets skied--Superior, Catherine's, Grizzly Gulch and inbound terrain all over the mountain. With the deep snow coverage this season (145" base today), there is much more surface area to ski and the runs really open up a lot more. Another 13" overnight was a deluxe way to start the week.  The end of the week could bring in more snow for the weekend.
